Nothing Screams Wrinkles Louder Than Crow’s Feet

April 24th, 2011 Leonora Posted in Beauty, Skin Care, Tips and Techniques No Comments »

When we smile, the skin on the outside corners our eyes wrinkle naturally, these wrinkles are called laugh lines. When we stop smiling, however, and some lines or wrinkles remain, these are called "crow's feet". Some of us would love to see it as signs of a happy and eventful life, but whether we admit it or not, wrinkles, no matter what we call them, are signs of aging.

There are ways to prevent and lessen wrinkles aside from Botox or other expensive surgical treatments for the face. The best way to prevent and lessen crow's feet is to live a healthy lifestyle. Too much exposure to the sun is one of the primary causes of wrinkles. Make sure that you apply sunblock whenever going out, no matter if it's a bright sunny day or not. Always keep a pair of sunglasses in your bag, just in case you would suddenly need more UV protection.

Aside from the sun, one of the most notorious causes of premature aging is our unhealthy habits. Smoking and using tanning beds damage your skin in ways that are not immediately noticeable. Not only are they damaging your skin, smoking and tanning beds are also proven causes of cancer. You need to make sure you eat healthy, always keep yourself hydrated and never forget to exfoliate and moisturize your skin, take vitamins and keep an active lifestyle. These tips would surely help in keeping your skin elasticity and youth. Remember, what you put inside your body determines what gets out of it. So get rid of your unhealthy habits and replace them with health enriching regimens.

Young Looking Healthy Hair: Coconut Oil

April 10th, 2011 Leonora Posted in Beauty, Tips and Techniques No Comments »

Just like any other part of the body, our hair needs to be protected from aging too. We have used anti-aging lotions and regimens for our skin, why haven’t we thought of doing the same for our hair? Women have probably tried all sorts of hair color and treatments during every salon visit. Which is why some, if not most of us probably suffer from dry, brittle or dull hair. Damaged hair is brought about by one of two culprits:

1.) by the chemicals and products we use, such as hair color, and

2.) too much exposure to the sun.

Conditioning is probably one of the best and most recommended solutions for hair damage and aging. However, salon treatments are usually expensive, and sometimes it’s better if we use a treatment that is natural and much more affordable so we can use it regularly. I researched online, and asked some friends for the best product I can use at home, and I was surprised when most of them suggested coconut oil as conditioning treatment.

I tried it by applying a few drops on the ends of my damp hair and massaged it halfway up in order to get the most oil at the ends, just the right amount on the rest and none at the roots and scalp. I used a shower cap to leave it on for 30 minutes. I’ve done this once a week for almost a month now, and my hair looked healthy and shiny. I recommend you try it too, use the purest coconut oil you can find, and voila, instant salon treatment you can do at home.

A Brief On Anti-Aging Makeup

October 25th, 2010 Roxelle Posted in Beauty, Cosmetics, Tips and Techniques No Comments »

Not a lot has been written about anti aging cosmetics but it’s certainly one angle to delve into when and if you’re concerned with aging. After all, most of us women wear makeup every day. If we put as much effort into putting makeup on and off as we do in executing our daily anti aging skin care regimen, then we might as well make it worth our time by choosing the right products.

Now, makeup like foundation and primers have anti aging properties that may not work as well as, say, an anti aging cream or serum would. But my take on this is any help I can get with my skin care regimen, I welcome. I also read in Good Housekeeping that if makeup has anti aging ingredients, it can actually be effective. However, you need to take into account two things: one, the concentration of the anti aging ingredients in your makeup and, two, whether the makeup is in liquid or powdered form.

Vitamin C, for example, has to be around 5 to 10% in concentration and Retinol, 0.1%, in an anti aging makeup to have any effect on your skin.  Additionally, ingredients like Retinol and vitamin E are oily and may be hard to mix in powdered makeup if they’re in high concentrations. Mineral makeup may be all the rad these days but if you want your foundation to double as an anti aging product then you might as well ditch the powder and go for the liquid ones.

So how do you make sure you will get what you’re looking for in an anti aging makeup? It’s as simple as checking the label.  Remember that an anti aging makeup isn’t a substitute for an anti aging serum or any other anti aging product you may be using.  And if you’re wondering where you can get these multi-tasking makeup, chances are your favorite cosmetic brand may be carrying an anti aging line of their own already.

July 11th, 2010 Sophia Mendelsohn Posted in Beauty, Consumer Reviews, RoC Retinol, Skin Care, Tips and Techniques, Treatment and Prevention No Comments »

List Price: $49.99 USD

There are currently a total of seven products in the RoC Retinol Correction lineup. In simple terms, retinol is a fat soluble animal form of vitamin A that is classified as a diterpenoid. Retinol is in fact one of the most usable forms of this vitamin.

Why a Topical Application of Retinol?

So then why not just take a vitamin A supplement? The answer to that is you can but you can never take enough to deliver to your skin the constant higher concentrations that a topical product can. You see vitamin A when taken orally is toxic in high dosages.

All RoC Retinol Correction Products Have it

All the products in the RoC Retinol Correction line contain this vitamin that's so important to healthy skin, along with a special mineral complex consisting of magnesium, zinc and copper. A specialized scientific formula that was developed after years if research in RoC laboratories.

RoC Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Daily Moisturizer SPF 30

A quick check of this product on Amazon.com shows it garnering consistent five out of possible five star user reviews. An unusually high rating. What this means, is that the vast majority of people who have used it, have received positive results.

It's touted as being able to visibly reduce expression lines around the mouth and eyes, as well as deeper wrinkles on the face neck and hands. At the same time, its combination of vitamin E and UVA sunscreens protect your skin form further photo-damage.

RoC Retinol Correction Eye Cream

This product receives 4-5 stars on Amazon. The better creams produced for the treatment of the delicate skin composing the orbital regions of the eyes, function to thicken the dermal-epidermal junction. This is a thin area of connective tissue thats located between the dermal and epidermal skin layers.

This product is formulated to deliver actual visible results in the way of diminished crows feet and deflated bags in 12 weeks and at the same time, it's mild enough to minimize the chance of eye irritation. It too contains retinol, a special blend of vital nutrients and clinically proven emollients.

RoC Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Serum

This powerful and clinically proven serum delivers concentrated retinol and a host of other vital skin nutrients deep into discreet problem areas. This is a 24 hour product that can be applied under makeup or used just prior to going to bed for night time therapy.

This is a light & silky fluid that glides on and spreads well, so just a dab goes a long way towards shorter and shallower wrinkles on the face neck and hands. Also just like the other products in the Retinol Correction lineup, it also contains a special formulation of vital minerals and nutrients.

RoC Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Filler

This unique product was designed for the individual who simply doesn't want to wait weeks for cumulative effect to appear. It delivers same day results and if that sounds too good to be true, it also receives a consistent five star rating on Amazon. Your not the only doubter to have been convinced that it works.

It contains what is described as a “breakthrough formula” composed of a chemically engineered fusion of fluid grabbing hyaluronic acid and pure retinol. The hyaluronic acid works to hydrate and immediately plump up skin, while the retinol functions to provide a cumulative long term solution to even the deepest and most difficult to address wrinkles.

RoC Daily Resurfacing Discs

There are a lot of convenient and compact pad and cloth products on the market but these are the only ones that you will find that are textured on one side and smooth on the other. Then combine that with the fact that they're infused with gentle cleaners and powerful clinically proven emollients and you have a one of a kind product, like no other.

At less than $10 a pack too, it makes them so easy and affordable to try and see for yourself why they garner a consistent five star user review rating on Amazon.com. They're just so handy for quick touch-ups and doing fast and convenient lipstick and makeup repairs, no matter where you are.

RoC Retinol Correction Pore Minimizing Cleanser

Once enlarged pore openings make their appearance, they can be notoriously stubborn to shrink back. Scrub away with a standard cleanser all you want but in fact that in most cases only makes the problem worse. It tends to stretch and dry out pore openings even more.

RoC Correction Pore Minimizing Cleaner uses an exclusive beta and hydroxy formula, combined with micro scrubbing beads to gently dissolve and lift away dead skin cells surrounding enlarged pore openings. The result is increased elasticity in pores that are scoured clean and ready to contact back to their original size.

RoC Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Night Cream

Night time is the most optimal time for skin therapy. The skin and its connective tissues are relaxed and the micro-vascular system is dilated to facilitate the delivery of vital nutrients. If you're going to do do daytime therapy, it just makes too much sense to also carry over your treatment regimen into the other half of your day.

This specially formulated night cream is formulated to assist in the skins natural restorative processes for maximum results. Not only does it deliver long term cumulative results but on the short term it helps you to wake up looking far more refreshed, with diminished dark areas and tighter skin in the orbital regions of the eyes.

Eyelash Growth Products – Separating Fact From Fiction

July 11th, 2010 Sophia Mendelsohn Posted in Beauty, Consumer Reviews, Eyelash Growth Products, Features, News and Commentary, Tips and Techniques, Treatment and Prevention No Comments »

List Price: $299.98 USD
New From: $159.99 In Stock

  • Do they really work?
  • If so, how long do they take?
  • Can they grow more actual hairs?
  • What about Side Effects?

No doubt but by now you've caught wind of some of the big buzz that's going on right now that's being created by eyelash growth products for sale on the Internet. Liquids in mascara type containers that are touted as being able to grow you fuller, longer lashes.

Do They Really Work?

Are Eyelash Growth Products Just All Hype?

So then what's the real story behind it all? Is this just one more “boom-to-bust” wave of hype that ends up leading all who follow it down a disappointing dead end? Or is it actually a story with merit? After all, hair growth products for balding men are old news.

Some Do Work Better Than Others

The simple answer, is yes there are viable products available that can deliver actual results, but just as in so many other cases of new developments of this type, some products work better than others and then again the worst of them are a total scam.

What These Products Can't Do

Now before I get into how you can separate the good from the bad, with regards to the eyelash growth products that are out there, I want to make one thing perfectly clear. That is that no product on the market can force your skin to create new hair follicles.

Don't Believe Everything You Read or Hear

What this means is that you're basically stuck with a set number of hairs on your body and that includes your lashes. This means that any promotional media or literature that alleges that anything can in any way get “more actual hair” to grow is false.

You Never Actually Lose Your Hair

You see your problem, if you're hair has thinned back in any way and that includes your lashes, isn't that it has gone away completely. Rather, what's happened is that it has receded back to a type of “fuzz”. The hair and follicle is still there. You just cant see it. That's all.

Before and After Photos

Helping and Stimulating Your Eyelashes to Grow Better

So eyelash growth products that work, function by stimulating any dormant follicles to “perk up” and get back in the game of producing long thick healthy hair. At the same time, they work to help those follicles that are functional to function even better.

Growing Any Hair Does Take Time

You're going to need a lot of patience though because like it or not, hair takes time to grow. This means that once you get your hands on a product that works, it will be at least a few months before you really start to see “full results”. You just have to wait for the hair to grow out.

Just One More Amazing Accidental Discovery

Would you believe that it was people with glaucoma who first began to notice that the eye drops that were prescribed to them were having an effect on their eyelashes? Well it's true and this is why the best eyelash growth products contain prostaglandin. It's the same active ingredient that's contained in glaucoma drops.

Over-Use of Growth Products Does More Harm than Good

Do be aware though that overuse can lead to real problems with your eyes. There's a whole list of side effects that can come from eyelash growth products but as long as you follow the directions and apply the product carefully, you should have no problem. Remember that overdoing it helps “not one bit”.
