Skin Care Routine as Anti-Aging Treatment

March 30th, 2011 Leonora Posted in Skin Care No Comments »

Sad to say, many of us neglect to take care of our skin at an early age. I can't even think of reasons why we don't tone and moisturize when we were teenagers but we can put makeup on. I didn't include cleansing since we do wash our face at least 3 times a day but most of us do not really use toners and moisturizers afterward.

Taking care of our skin is actually one of the best precaution and the most easy and convenient anti-aging treatment there is. It is way cheaper than going to a dermatologist or beauty doctor to have your face lift or whatever "anti-aging" procedure they offer to give you youthful glow and young-looking skin. The best anti-aging treatment starts with you, at the comforts of your own home, without draining your monthly budget.

If you're not familiar yet, here is the most common skin care routine:

Cleanse - we may not consider or consciously been doing this as an anti-aging treatment but actually it's the first step on the skin care routine and this step is probably the only step that most of us do since washing the face is as automatic as when we brush our teeth in the morning and evening. However, simply washing with water doesn't cut it. We need to use a gentle facial cleanser to get rid of the dirt, dust and oil that our skin face every single day. Choose a facial cleanser that suits your skin type: for oily skin, for dry skin, for sensitive skin.

Exfoliate - exfoliation isn't everyday. The purpose of exfoliating is to get rid of dead, dry skin so exfoliating every day might cause your skin to dry out.

Tone - some dermatologists say you can go without facial toner if you use a really good facial cleanser twice a day or if you have dry skin, but if you have acne-prone or oily skin, a toner is highly recommended. Benefits of a toner:

  • help refine pores
  • remove excess oil
  • remove makeup and dirt residue
  • restore skin's pH balance

When choosing a toner, if you have oily skin make sure that it has salicylic acid.

Moisturize - if you have dry skin, you may skip toners, but you cannot skip moisturizing even when you have oily skin. There are also moisturizers that are made for specific skin types so make sure that what you are using is the ideal one for you. Light and non-greasy for oily skin and somewhat rich and moisturizing for dry skin, etc.

Taking care of our skin is as easy as waking up and getting dressed, what's a little difficult is choosing the right product for your skin type. Just remember to read the ingredients and more specifically the skin type that it's made for.

What To Look For In An Anti-Aging Cream

March 26th, 2011 Leonora Posted in Skin Care, Tips and Techniques No Comments »

You are in search for a good anti-aging cream, you look for brands, read reviews about them but do you have an idea on what to really look for in an anti-aging cream? A good anti-aging cream should have effective active ingredients. Now what are the ingredients you should look for?

Here are the common ingredients that are present in anti-aging creams:

  • Tea extracts - green tea, black tea, or oolong extracts, but green tea extracts are the most commonly used
  • Copper peptides
  • Hydroxy acids
  • Kinetin
  • Retinol (Vitamin A)
  • Coenzyme Q10

Now, keep in mind that each individual is different and it doesn't mean that when someone close to you says that this certain anti-aging cream did her wonders, that it would also do you good. So you may have to try several anti-aging creams before you find the one that is effective for you. Also, anti-aging creams don't work overnight. You have to be patient to wait for weeks or months, considering that you are religiously applying the cream, before you see results like less visible wrinkles, etc.

Some more points to consider:

  • Over-the-counter anti-aging creams may not be as effective as those of prescribed ones.
  • Expensive anti-aging creams do not necessarily mean they are effective than the cheaper ones.
  • There are some anti-aging creams that may cause you side effects like rashes or skin irritation. Make sure you read and follow the instructions, if you still experience side effects then stop using it.

If you really want to make sure about the anti-aging cream that would be perfect for your skin and you have money to spare, then a trip to the dermatologist would be of help and can recommend of prescribe you a good anti-aging cream.

Prevent Premature Aging

March 22nd, 2011 Leonora Posted in Skin Care, Tips and Techniques No Comments »

All of us are aging, whether we like it or not. We age every day and the first place it will show is on our skin. It's inevitable. However, there are a couple of things we can do to avoid premature aging.

Based on research, there are two different types of aging:

Intrinsic aging - or what is commonly known as the the natural aging process. This type of aging normally begins during our mid-20's and signs would not be visible for a couple more years.

Extrinsic aging - or premature aging, is the type that is caused by external factors. These external factors act together with the natural aging process which causes our skin to age prematurely. The most common factor of premature aging is the sun. Yes, the bright, warm, beautiful sun. It's harmful rays especially between 10 am to 4 pm can cause several premature aging sign such as: freckles, fine lines, dark spots, loose skin and worse, skin cancer. This type of aging is referred to as "Photoaging" by dermatologists and it occurs over a period of time.

What to do to prevent premature aging?

  • Use sunblock/sunscreen. They are not invented strictly for beach use. They are made to protect our skin from the harmful rays of the sun so make sure you apply sunscreen on your face and body when you go out.
  • Avoid too much tanning. No matter how great you look with a tan, you would look great with loose skin, dark spots and wrinkles after several years as an effect of your tanning. Tanning bed counts too.
  • Avoid staying under the sun from 10 am to 4 pm. If you can't, make sure you have applied sunscreen.
  • Stop doing facial exercises. We used to think that doing facial exercises can help us look younger, tone our facial muscles. It looks like it won't. Doing facial exercises can actually lead to wrinkles and fine lines a.k.a premature aging signs.
  • Quit smoking. I know it's hard to do but at least try to lessen the number of sticks you puff each day and then slowly try to simply quit. Smoking doesn't just cause nicotine stains on the teeth of the smoker, dark lips and gums, lung caner, asthma, it can also contribute to wrinkled, leathery skin and yellowish hue in the complexion. Who would want that?
  • Eat healthy and exercise. Need I explain more? Foods rich in Vitamin A, C and E are rich sources of "skin nutrients". As for exercising, it does wonders. It can release unwanted stress from the body, sweat out excess fats, keep the heart pumping, the blood flowing and well, our muscles toned.

When it comes to the natural aging process, there really is nothing we can do to stop it or prevent it from happening. It is natural. But with premature aging, there are several precautions that we can do. I know some would say "why prevent it when we'd experience it anyway after 5,10,20 years?". I'd say, do you want to look like you're 50 at the age of 30? I know you don't. What's good about preventing premature aging is that it's never too early to start. Actually, the earlier you start to care for your skin and your health, the better.

Anti Aging Skin Care From The Inside Out

January 17th, 2011 Roxelle Posted in Front Page, Skin Care, Tips and Techniques, Treatment and Prevention, Uncategorized No Comments »

You can never be too young to start caring for your skin and prevent it from aging sooner.  Not only should you allow yourself the luxury of trying out good skin care products at a young age (and they have to be age-appropriate) like using sunscreen and moisturizers, you also have to make sure that you put certain habits in place.  The earlier you start doing them, the better you will be at not being able to live without them later on. And that’s a good thing as you’ll find out later on.

First up is your sleeping habits, anti aging skin care begins with a restful (and regular) hours of sleep.  Your skin heals and regenerates when you’re asleep. If you miss out on sleep, you’ll miss out on those natural healing processes too causing your skin cells to age faster.

Avoid getting all stressed out.  Easier said than done, I know.  Stress will always be there. But one way to combat the effects of stress and release the toxins it produces in the body is to get moving.  Spend at least 15 minutes of at least 3 days of your week dancing, hula-hooping, stairs climbing, jogging, walking, swimming and anything you can think of that can get your heart rate up.

Get your daily dose of Vitamin C and antioxidants.  It’s as simple as taking a supplement, eating an apple, drinking a glass of orange juice or adding tomatoes (rich in antioxidants) to your menu.  What this does is provide your skin with the collagen it needs to stay firm and, yes, young.  Miss out on that more often than not then you’ll surely be saying hi to sag and fine lines sooner than you would certainly like.

Get your green tea on.  Green tea has been proven to have the antioxidants that will help you keep yourself younger looking, longer.  Consider replacing your coffee and your soda sessions with a cup of hot or glass of cold green tea.

Finally, just as it is important to keep your insides prepped up for fighting aging, so should you take care of the outer layers of your skin.  Cleanse, tone, exfoliate and moisturize, these are the step to skin care that you should incorporate into your daily routine.  And I’m not just talking about the facial area; these steps should be applied to the rest of your body as well.  There are plenty of anti aging skin care products out there and they’re not all tailored to your skin type.  That means you should find the best one for you.  The sooner you get to do so, the better.

A Closeup Look at the RoC Retinol Correction Lineup

July 11th, 2010 Sophia Mendelsohn Posted in Beauty, Consumer Reviews, RoC Retinol, Skin Care, Tips and Techniques, Treatment and Prevention No Comments »

List Price: $49.99 USD

There are currently a total of seven products in the RoC Retinol Correction lineup. In simple terms, retinol is a fat soluble animal form of vitamin A that is classified as a diterpenoid. Retinol is in fact one of the most usable forms of this vitamin.

Why a Topical Application of Retinol?

So then why not just take a vitamin A supplement? The answer to that is you can but you can never take enough to deliver to your skin the constant higher concentrations that a topical product can. You see vitamin A when taken orally is toxic in high dosages.

All RoC Retinol Correction Products Have it

All the products in the RoC Retinol Correction line contain this vitamin that's so important to healthy skin, along with a special mineral complex consisting of magnesium, zinc and copper. A specialized scientific formula that was developed after years if research in RoC laboratories.

RoC Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Daily Moisturizer SPF 30

A quick check of this product on Amazon.com shows it garnering consistent five out of possible five star user reviews. An unusually high rating. What this means, is that the vast majority of people who have used it, have received positive results.

It's touted as being able to visibly reduce expression lines around the mouth and eyes, as well as deeper wrinkles on the face neck and hands. At the same time, its combination of vitamin E and UVA sunscreens protect your skin form further photo-damage.

RoC Retinol Correction Eye Cream

This product receives 4-5 stars on Amazon. The better creams produced for the treatment of the delicate skin composing the orbital regions of the eyes, function to thicken the dermal-epidermal junction. This is a thin area of connective tissue thats located between the dermal and epidermal skin layers.

This product is formulated to deliver actual visible results in the way of diminished crows feet and deflated bags in 12 weeks and at the same time, it's mild enough to minimize the chance of eye irritation. It too contains retinol, a special blend of vital nutrients and clinically proven emollients.

RoC Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Serum

This powerful and clinically proven serum delivers concentrated retinol and a host of other vital skin nutrients deep into discreet problem areas. This is a 24 hour product that can be applied under makeup or used just prior to going to bed for night time therapy.

This is a light & silky fluid that glides on and spreads well, so just a dab goes a long way towards shorter and shallower wrinkles on the face neck and hands. Also just like the other products in the Retinol Correction lineup, it also contains a special formulation of vital minerals and nutrients.

RoC Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Filler

This unique product was designed for the individual who simply doesn't want to wait weeks for cumulative effect to appear. It delivers same day results and if that sounds too good to be true, it also receives a consistent five star rating on Amazon. Your not the only doubter to have been convinced that it works.

It contains what is described as a “breakthrough formula” composed of a chemically engineered fusion of fluid grabbing hyaluronic acid and pure retinol. The hyaluronic acid works to hydrate and immediately plump up skin, while the retinol functions to provide a cumulative long term solution to even the deepest and most difficult to address wrinkles.

RoC Daily Resurfacing Discs

There are a lot of convenient and compact pad and cloth products on the market but these are the only ones that you will find that are textured on one side and smooth on the other. Then combine that with the fact that they're infused with gentle cleaners and powerful clinically proven emollients and you have a one of a kind product, like no other.

At less than $10 a pack too, it makes them so easy and affordable to try and see for yourself why they garner a consistent five star user review rating on Amazon.com. They're just so handy for quick touch-ups and doing fast and convenient lipstick and makeup repairs, no matter where you are.

RoC Retinol Correction Pore Minimizing Cleanser

Once enlarged pore openings make their appearance, they can be notoriously stubborn to shrink back. Scrub away with a standard cleanser all you want but in fact that in most cases only makes the problem worse. It tends to stretch and dry out pore openings even more.

RoC Correction Pore Minimizing Cleaner uses an exclusive beta and hydroxy formula, combined with micro scrubbing beads to gently dissolve and lift away dead skin cells surrounding enlarged pore openings. The result is increased elasticity in pores that are scoured clean and ready to contact back to their original size.

RoC Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Night Cream

Night time is the most optimal time for skin therapy. The skin and its connective tissues are relaxed and the micro-vascular system is dilated to facilitate the delivery of vital nutrients. If you're going to do do daytime therapy, it just makes too much sense to also carry over your treatment regimen into the other half of your day.

This specially formulated night cream is formulated to assist in the skins natural restorative processes for maximum results. Not only does it deliver long term cumulative results but on the short term it helps you to wake up looking far more refreshed, with diminished dark areas and tighter skin in the orbital regions of the eyes.
